View your favoritesDevansh means ‘a portion of a god’, from Sanskrit devāṃśa. Monier-Williams records the whole compound, combining deva, ‘god’, with aṃśa, ‘portion’ or ‘share’, and cites the Kathāsaritsāgara. Its older literary use includes the idea of a partial divine incarnation. ‘A portion of the divine’ is a close rendering of that documented sense. The compound provides a specific connection between the broader words Dev and Ansh.

देवांश is read de-vaansh, in two syllables with a steady long e and a long aa. Devaansh makes the second vowel's length explicit. The final syllable includes a nasal sound before sh. Sanskrit devāṃśa retains an additional light vowel at the end.
Also spelled Devaansh.
