View your favoritesAarna is popularly read as ‘wave’ and as a name of Lakshmi, but neither meaning is settled. One proposed connection is Sanskrit arṇa, ‘wave’, ‘flood’ or ‘stream’, and its feminine form arṇā, ‘river’, recorded by Monier-Williams. Those forms have a short opening vowel, however, and the cited sources do not establish a link to Aarna. The claim that it names Lakshmi also lacks a textual reference here. Water imagery is therefore the likely association, rather than a verified translation of the name.
No dictionary entry documents this spelling with that sense, so the meaning above is the one families use, not a dictionary definition. How we use sources.
आरना is read aar-naa, in two syllables with long vowels. Arna and Aarnaa are alternative Roman spellings. Keep r and n together without adding a vowel between them. The proposed Sanskrit connection arṇā differs in both its opening vowel and its n sound from the Devanagari spelling given here.
Also spelled Arna.
